Ripe and sweet elderberries from family orchards and village Grocka near Belgrade is used. The berries are picked only when black, because they gain the full ripeness at that particular moment. Otherwise they can be toxic. The brandy is aged so that it keeps emphasized odor and specific aroma of elder. Over 15 kilos of ripe berries is needed to make 1 bottle of elder brandy.
